JANUARY NOTE
So far, this has been a school year unlike any other. As we head into Spring, we are hopeful that students will be able to begin returning to in person learning. The goal will be to allow students to return to a school that has been made as safe as possible from COVID-19. Both Ms. Terri, our school's health assistant and I will be working to help keep your students healthy and safe at school.
When students return to in person learning, they will note that several things have changed. All students are required to wear facial coverings while in the building. These should be washed daily and having a spare available is a good idea. If the mask becomes damaged the health office has a limited supply to provide a replacement. Students are also strongly encouraged to carry a refillable water bottle. While our water refill stations are working, the water fountains are shut off to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. For a list of things to consider prior to school return, suggestions can be found in the TUSD COVID-19 resource section. If you are looking for specific information about TUSD COVID-19 policy or practices or resources for specific problems you may be experiencing, there is a wealth of information in the district's COVID-19 Resource Section to help you. You can also contact us in the health office and we will be happy to assist you.
The return to school will be exciting for all but can also be challenging and stressful for parents and students. If you have a student who has a medical diagnosis or specific health needs, please contact us in the health office. We will work with you to make sure student's needs are met while they are at school. I also ask that you explore this website. The tab labeled HEALTH PROBLEMS has general information for you regarding school policies for medications and other health related information. Under this tab you will also find specific information for students with diabetes, food allergies and asthma, along with the forms we use to plan your student's care. We also have information and resources for you if your student is struggling with emotional issues such as anxiety or depression which unfortunately have become even more common during the pandemic.
The website also has a section on immunizations. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, students are required to meet immunization standards set by the state in order to attend school. In addition to the immunizations required to start school in PreK and Kindergarten, students require two additional vaccines, the MCV and Tdap, when they turn 11. We also strongly recommend the HPV vaccine, which prevents some forms of cancer. If you have any questions regarding how to read your child's record or what shots they should have, go to the TUSD site for details or see a health office staff member. If you have questions or concerns regarding immunizations, please take a moment to look at the information listed in the immunization section of the Magee Health Office webpage. Of course, we are always happy to answer any questions or address any of your concerns. Just stop by or give us a call at 731-5017.
The Health Office staff looks forward to working with you and your students to ensure a healthy and happy remainder of our school year. We've missed you!
